Speaking at a ceremony held in Tehran to honor 17 students of the institute who have managed to learn the entire Quran by heart, Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Reza Shahsavani said the institute has taken steps to teach Quran memorization following Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s call for training ten million Quran memorizers in the country.
He said more than 2000 individuals have taken part in the summer Quran memorization plan “Rihla” in the institute’s Tehran branch.
The cleric referred to the efforts made by other organization to implement a plan for training 10 million Quran memorizers and said that given the great scope of the plan, there needs to be Quran ministry to coordinate and implement the initiative.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed in a speech in 2011 that the society should take a direction so that at least 10 million people learn the Holy Quran by heart.
Hence, related Quranic bodies in the country devised a plan, called National Quran Memorization Plan, aimed at promoting memorization of the Holy Book and training 10 million memorizers in a few years.
Different organizations and institutions including the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, Center for Coordination, Development and Promotion of Quranic Activities, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and Ministry of Education have been making efforts to materialize the objectives of the plan.
